Hope 2c orange vermillion & black, type III (#47, Very Fine) & 1918 1c green & black, type IV (#52, Very Fine) tied by Cristobal, 10-6-1920, machine cancel on 1916 2c red & black entire (#U2a/2a, Very Fine) to Jamaica by unsuccessful Trans-Oceanic Record flight #1018 (CZ flight #2) with special blue Cristobal, Oct. 6, Transit hdsp with, "AIR SERVICE/ FIRST DISPATCH/ Canal Zone-U.S.A." in killer bars. The flight was forced to return to France Field due to weather conditions where 6-line, "AVIATOR ENCOUNTERED/ IMPOSSIBLE WEATHER/ CONDITIONS NEARING/ JAMAICA, COMPELLING/ RETURN. MAIL RE-DIS-/ PATCHED BY STEAMER" handstamp was applied and cover was forwarded receiving Kingston, Jamaica, 10-23, receivers. Only 726 pieces were carried on the flight. An historic flight with exceptional combination franking. Less then two dozen examples of 2c Mt. Hope are known on cover of which 3 or 4 were carried on this flight. An Attractive & Amazing item.
